Pots & Planters FAQs

How do self-watering pots work?
Self-watering pots have a water reservoir at the base of the pot that allows for a pot to drink water at the perfect pace for the plant. The reservoir gives a visual queue when it's empty and it's time to fill it back up.
Can you reuse potting soil?
If the soil last used was healthy, for the most part you can reuse potting soil. If the soil was prone to pests and unhealthy plants then it is best to sterilize the soil or use new soil.
How to pot a plant?
Start off by putting an inch or two of soil mix in the bottom of the pot. Then place the plant back in the pot. In most cases, you should not bury the plant any deeper than it was growing originally. Add soil around the sides of the root ball and firm very gently (don't press too hard). Finally, water thoroughly with room-temperature water to settle the soil and fill any air pockets.
How to keep animals out of a planter?
There are many ways to repel and deter animals from your garden, but some of the most effective are visual and auditory scare devices. These include ultrasonic repellers, motion-activated water sprayers, noise makers, and visual scare devices such as reflective tape and faux predators. While these actions may work great for some animals, the effectiveness of these devices may diminish over time as pests become familiar with them.
