All About Snip-n-Drip Watering Systems
Easy, customizable, irrigation system helps plants thrive and saves water
With our Snip-n-Drip soaker systems, you can water your entire landscape, from landscape plantings, raised beds and garden rows to containers on the porch. Our customizable systems let you apply water just where you want it — and not where you don't. Start with the kits that best suit your needs (described below) and then customize it by cutting the soaker and garden hoses to length.
The amount of coverage you get from a line of soaker hose varies, depending on your soil. To figure out the best spacing for your garden, run the soak for a bit to see how the water moves in your soil. In fast-draining soil, such as sandy soil, and you won't see much lateral spread of moisture. In rich, loamy soil, there will be more lateral spread.
Customizable Irrigation System Components
Here's a rundown of the components you'll find in our Snip-n-Drip systems and how they're used. You can purchase these components separately to further customize a kit or create your own Snip-n-Drip system from scratch.
Our soaker hose system provides plants with the slow, deep watering they crave. The weeping action delivers water right to the roots, with minimal loss due to evaporation and runoff.
This hose can be cut with scissors to fit the shape of any bed or row.
If you find that you need to add more soaker hose after you've already set up your system, it's easy to splice in more, using Hose Couplers to quickly and easily connect sections of Garden Hose to sections of Soaker Hose.
Some kits include 3-Way Connectors and Angle Connectors to direct water flow.
We recommend anchoring the soaker hose in place with Earth Staples (sold separately).
We also recommend adding a Pressure Regulator (sold separately) at the start of your watering system to provide the consistent, low water pressure needed for optimal soaker hose performance.
Use Garden Hose to carry water from one area to another. Use it between sections of soaker hose to cross a path, or to bridge the area between two raised beds or two shrubs. Use it to connect your soaker system to your faucet, too. Cut it to length with scissors.
Consider Adding a Timer
Although it might seem like a luxury item, a timer will turn your system from good to great. Choose a programmable timer that allows for several shorter cycles per day. With soaker hose, it often helps to use a technique called "pulse watering," especially if you have heavy soil that doesn't drain well. Instead of running the soaker for one long cycle, you break it into four shorter soak cycles, following each soak by a pause. This allows water to soak into the soil and prevents waste. For instance, you set the timer to soak for 20 minutes, followed by a 20-minute pause. You repeat the process three more times. Adjust the length of soak and pause as needed, depending on your soil and rainfall.
